Full Description

A board school built in 1874 to the designs of Robert Clarke and Son of Nottingham. A dormer building in the Gothic style. There have been a number of mid-C20 alterations, including new porches, and a tower has been demolished. The principal window openings have Gothic tracery within pointed stone surrounds; minor openings have stone surrounds with mullions and transoms. Most original cast iron glazing survives; there is some Upvc in the later rear wing. The original gate pier survive, the boundary wall now carries a concrete coping. The master's house survives as a private dwelling. [The same architects were responsible for the school at East Markham which was built in 1877 and is now listed Grade II]. (1)
