Former Mechanics Institute. A much altered and extended vernacular stone building. Number 10 is the original, three bay building of sandstone rubble, since extended and partially refaced to form number 8. The later work is in limestone ashlar. The original window openings have all been mutilated. A pair of lintels and sills survive on number 10, whilst the surrounds of three tall cross casements remain on number 8. There is a modern shop front. (1)
