Building of brick with ashlar dressings and classical decoration. Window arrangement on the front façade is of 2,3,7,2,7,3,2. From either end there is a single bay of windows, 4 15-pane sashes with 6 pane overlights. Following this is a projecting bay in ashlar with two vertically arranged groups of three sashes separated by mullions, these groups are flanked by giant order columns in angular Corinthian style and topped by a triangular broken pediment . Following from this comes a row of 14 sashes arranged 7 on the upper and 7 on the lower floor. The central most of the lower sashes is of half width and is a 12 pane sash with a 4 pane overlight. Next comes the central doorway, with a porch supported by 4 Doric columns, the outer two squared the inner pair round. The doors are glazed with 12 panes in glazing bars, and the doors surmounted by two 16 pane overlights. The doorcase is topped by a curving Dutch pediment. The windows are immediately topped by a decorative ashlar lintel course. Two ridge stacks of ashlar can be seen topping the front façade. The ashlar decoration disappears around the sides of the building leaving a hard brick exterior to these faces. Again 16 pane sashes with their 8 light overlights. On the west side there is more decoration than the bland east. Here there is a large arched window incorporating casement openings. A brick arched overlight tops the stone doorcase of the west entrance doors. Brick voussoirs take over above the windows. To the rear is a later extension with all round arched windows with opening casements 6 bays long with hipped slate roof. Behind the main building lies an infilled courtyard occupied by a large glazed roof and another brick building with a slate roof and round arched windows. Added to MDC Local List on 01.10.2007. (1)
