Full Description

Very large, roughly-rectangular stone with finished front face with a large, rectangular, black slate, dedicatory tablet inset. (1)

Inscription: IN MEMORY OF THE CREWS OF TWO WELLINGTON MK X BOMBERS/ WHICH CRASHED NEAR THIS SITE/ (/ RAF crest) LH Column: 82 OTU WELLINGTON X HE201 12TH OCT 1943/ T/O GAMSTON 1448, CRASHED CRESWELL PLANTATION/ (names) RH Column: 86 OTU WELLINGTON X HE485 30TH AUG 1944/ T/O GAMSTON 0447, CRASHED HOUGHTON HALL/ (names)/ THEY GAVE THEIR TOMORROWS FOR OUR TODAYS (1)

While it claims to be lost on the IWM website, the memorial can be seen from Google Earth aerial photographs nestled within the fencing surrounding the deserted village of Haughton/ the remains of St James' Chapel (53.249300249435485, -0.9654193006047546) (Google Earth Pro, 2021).
