Full Description

The only other feature to produce a possible Iron Age date was a pit at the western site edge. This feature was roughly 1.45m in diameter, but survived to a depth of only 0.26m: 11 sherds of prehistoric pottery, possibly Iron Age, were retrieved from its single fill. The pit was close to the outer edge of a curvilinear ditch which produced no dating evidence in the excavation, and was disturbed by an evaluation trench without having been identified there.

Another pit was close to the northern side of the ditch, and may have been associated with it. This pit was oval in plan, oriented parallel to the ditch, with a sloping base deeper at the western end than the eastern: two sherds of pottery were retrieved from its fill, but could not confidently be identified as Roman or pre-Roman.
