Full Description

A loose cluster of five small pits approximately 10m to the south of ditch (MNT28952) produced no finds, but a sample was taken from one of the pits which lay slightly removed from the others to the west. This feature may have been the truncated base of a post-hole, as it had steep sides despite its small size – at 0.29m x 0.20m x 0.12m, it was so small that the entire fill, a greyish-black silty sand with ash and charcoal inclusions, was included in the sample. Although a substantial quantity of charcoal was retrieved from the sample, palaeobotanical remains consisted only of a few fragments of hazelnut shell and seeds of common wild plants.
