Full Description
Site of Sutton in Ashfield Town railway station, on the Leen Valley Extension Railway, opened in 1898, closed to regular passengers in 1931 and wholly in 1964. (1)
Sutton in Ashfield Town Station opened on 4th April 1898 and was originally called Sutton-in-Ashfield for Huthwaite GN station. Not to be confused with Sutton-in-Ashfield (Central) station of the GC Mansfield (Central) route. The passenger service was extended northwards from Skegby to Shirebrook (South)on 1st November 1901. It closed to all regular passenger services on 14th September 1931 but Leen Valley line stations continued to have seasonal time tabled trains and locally advertised excursions until 7th September 1964.
