Full Description

[Name SK 477540] Kirkby Park [T.I.] (1)

"In 1345 [John Darcy] ... obtained a licence to make and enclose a park of Kirkby, and the fields on its site are still known as Kirkby Park". (2)

Kirkby Park - not mentioned. (3)

The boundary of the Md. park is probably represented by a
nearly continuous line of field-boundaries, followed by the
parish-boundary, on the south and by streams on the east and west
with the road from Pinxton to Kirkby-in-Ashfield forming the
northern boundary. No evidence of an earthen pale was seen:
the field-boundaries are hedgerows on a slight bank. The area
enclosed is farmland with collieries and is undulating but
generally high ground. (4)

Added to NCC HER as part of the NRHE-HER project. Record from Historic England's NRHE dataset.
