Nottingham's Southern Cemetery was laid out between 1901 and 1914 and included a pair of Gothic cemetery chapels. In 1928 permission was given to convert one of the chapels into a crematorium, the conversion was designed by the City Engineer and the crematorium opened in 1931. As well as the chapels the building consists of cloisters, vestry, mortuary, waiting room, Book of Remembrance room and committal chambers. The garden of Rest was laid out in 1928. (2)
