Summary

The site of a railway station on the Mansfield, Southwell and Rolleston Junction Railway, built in 1871, closed to passengers in 1929 and entirely in 1965. It was known variously as "Blidworth Station", "Blidworth and Rainworth Station", or "Python Hill Station". The original station featured a main two storey gabled brick building with an adjacent single storey waiting room.

Full Description

Indicated on the 1885 Ordnance Survey map as "Blidworth Station", and on the 1900 Ordnance Survey map as Blidworth and Rainworth Station. It was located at Python Hill, circa SK 59510 57926 (NAT). (1) (2)

An image of the railway station appears on a regional photgraphic archive website, taken circa 1871 when the railway was freshly constructed. Here the station is described as Python Hill Station. The station comprises a main two storey gabled brick building featuring prominent finials to the gable ends, with an adjacent single storey waiting room partly open to the platform. The stone platform has a brick boundary wall, and is equipped with gas lights. (3)
