The site of a small World War Two military airfield, opened in 1941 and closed in 1945. The site is situated between Papplewick and Hucknall, west of the B683 road. As the airfield was only a relief landing ground for Hucknall, the airfield had a small grass landing area used as an emergency landings and for low level flying by an Elementary Flying Training School of Royal Air Force 21 Group, based at Hucknall. There was no accommodation or hangars at the relief airfield. After the war the Papplewick Moor airfield site returned to agriculture. (1)

Papplewick Moor airfield, Nottinghamshire, SK 550 510 (sic?), opened in 1941 and closed in 1945. The source indicates on a sketch plan that site is situated between Papplewick and Hucknall, west of the B683 road (the airfield appears as a stippled area). As the airfield was only a relief landing ground for Hucknall, the airfield had a small grass landing area used for emergency landings and for low level flying by an Elementary Flying Training School of Royal Air Force 21 Group. The NGR and the location of the stippled area depicting the airfield on the plan in source 1 above appear to be incompatable: if the stippled area is correctly located on the small plan the NGR should be further to the west at SK 541 507. (3)
