Full Description
Carriage drive and tree avenue running c. 385 m south-west then west from the entrance lodge and gates on Wollaton Road (MNT24942) to Belle Vue / Beeston Fields House, now Beeston Fields Golf Club clubhouse (MNT24943). The lodge is recorded on Sanderson's map of 1835. An estate plan of 1880 labels the entrance lodge, "Avenue" and roadside plantation, and the drive is shown tree-lined on OS six-inch and 25-inch maps from the 1880s onward. 1923 sale particulars describe "an entrance drive over a quarter of a mile long". The drive survives in use as the golf club access, with an avenue of mature trees, apparently mostly lime, on grass verges for c. 200 m, a bend with specimen beech and false acacia, and a hedged final approach. Stone gate piers, iron gates and walls survive at the entrance (1)
