Full Description

BA food vessel found during electricity work excavations in Marton Road (above grid ref) in 1936. More than half the vessel remains including a complete section, the dimensions being 4.75in high and 6in diameter at the top. It is made of a light coloured paste with a smooth sandy texture. At the same site in 1938 the remains of a Neo B bowl of Peterborough type ware were found 4.5ft down in fine sand. The sherds are of coarse gritty clay of reddish face with dark grey centre. Due to the lapse of time between the 2 finds their relationship cannot be determined but note the nearby hoard. (1)
No additional information gained in Newark. (3)
See L3644 for nearby BA hoard.
