Full Description

Late BA hoard found in 1877 when making the railway cutting (above grid ref). 2 discs, 6 spearheads and 3 axeheads were found, the main part going to the BM in 1909 though an axe is in the Gilstrap Museum, Newark. The hoard is probably of C7 BC but the deposition could be later. (1) (2)
Single looped and socketed axe from this hoard in NWM, but holding not confirmed. (4)
A Ewart Park, LBA hoard. The nature of the items, and their good condition, suggests that they may represent a Personal or Merchant's hoard. All artefacts have a similar dark brown patina. All except one axe are at the British Museum, presented by Canon W Greenwell in 1909. (See this article for details of the items). (5)
See L3643 for nearby Preh pottery.
