Full Description

BA palstave found in gypsum quarry. (1)
Found by dragline in surface soil clearance for gypsum quarrying. Early, Group III, Type Wantage, variant Blackrock, Taunton, MBA. Length 169mm, cutting edge 70mm, weight 481g. Trident pattern with mid rib and three pronged heads. Wide blade, no loop. Asymmetrical shape. Damage on blade edge, head and one shoulder. Black/dark green. Some corrosion, but otherwise a smooth treated surface. (2)
NB OS grid ref used, NWM version falls outside quarry.
