Full Description

A linear earthwork, in the form of a bank below a ditch, follows the contours of the S side of the valley of Gallow Hole Dyke from a point above Roumes Grange to South Sellers; where it is ploughed out it shows as a soilmark and it ends in a scatter of building material. The alternative explanation of this earthwork is that it was intended to keep deer in the open park to the S out of the meadows by the stream, but its adherence to a contoured line rather suggests a mill leet. (1)
Ditch only (2).
Linear ditch. Now a modern concrete farm road on line of an original covered way; the E portion (in Kennel Wood) is under restricted afforestation. (3) (NB the road actually ran to the N of the earthwork.)
Now entirely ploughed, except perhaps in the wood. This feature could have fed water to the ponds at Rufford House, or been part of a water meadow system. (4)
See M4117 for site of Rufford deserted village.
