Full Description
Circular bronze late BA shield found and retained by the workman dredging --/09/1928 in the River Trent. In almost perfect condition, 17.2in diameter, decorated with concentric circles from the 4.4in diameter umbo. Acquired by Baggaley for the Sheffield City Museum --/05/1949. (1)

Type Trent, Ewart Park, LBA. Diameter 437cm, depth 50mm. Circular, made of thin sheet bronze with 22 concentric ribs hammered up from behind. Central low conical boss. Handle is fastened by rivet at each end. Outer edge has turned-over rim. Two movable bronze loops on back of shield, each attached by a rivet. In fine condition apart from some damage around the boss, dents on the boss, and twists in the handle. No corrosion. Colour: dark brown. (3)
