Full Description

--/12/1981 - logboat dredged out of the N bank of the R Idle during river works near Mattersey Thorpe. The boat is hollowed out of one piece of oak, canoe-shaped, with pointed bow and stern and sides shaped to give a keel like bottom. 13.5m long and 0.87m across at the gunwales. Now at National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, being stabilised and studied. C14 date of c 460 AD. (1)
