Full Description

In the field to the N of the drive to Newstead Grange immediately W of the road, my father found about a dozen old coins, c 10 years ago. They were lying near the surface of the ground; no pottery or container was found near them. (Mr Wombwell's father lives at Rufford and could not be contacted - Mr Wombwell had no knowledge of the present whereabouts of the coins). (1)
The exact provenance and present location of these coins were not established. The coins are spoken of locally as being Ro but this was not substantiated. The field indicated is on high ground sloping down to the SW corner. There are no surface irregularities or evidence of any former structure; the major part of the field is under barley. (2)
