Full Description
It is said to be the last resting place of an eccentric gentleman, who, if the burial took place, must have been buried several centuries ago. It is reported that the place is described in the Duke of Portland's deeds as the "Island Meadow" and the mound marks the site where once stood a scythe and sword factory - the burial could have been made before. (1) (2)
This feature is a long, narrow, grass covered mound, 1.8m high, and located in a river valley amid sewage works. No ditch is visible. Soil movements have resulted in a little erosion at the base along the sides and there seems to have been some disturbance on the narrow top. Classification of this feature is impossible without excavation. (3)
See M7514 for scythe factory.
