Full Description
Neo flint axehead found in limestone soil at Hodsock Grange. (1)
Stone axehead ground and polished to an edge 3in long, the other end tapering to a blunt point. It is 6in long and weighs 20oz. Its condition is perfect except for a slight roughening of the surface due to weathering and 2 tiny flakes have been knocked off the edge. It was found a few days ago by a schoolboy, HD Hand, on the surface of a field at Hodsock Grange subsequent to deep digging to improve drainage. (2)
This implement was found in "Shed Field" at above grid ref during potato lifting (4). It is still in the possession of Mr DH Hand (72 Mellish Rd, Langold) but it was not seen. Apparently identified as Neo by NUM. (3)
