Full Description

Polished stone axe found --/04/1959 whilst cultivating a piece of recently reclaimed land known as Bush Field. The boy who found it gave it to Mr GF Garner and indicated to him the approx find spot (as above). It is still in Mr Garner's possession but he intends to present it to the Worksop Museum. The axe is greyish-green in colour, 8.25in long and 3.5in wide. It is not however complete and must have been considerably longer. The implement has been examined by JE Bartlett, curator of Weston Park Museum, Sheffield who says that it was probably produced at Langdale in the Lake District and is of the period c 1500 BC.
