Full Description

A wooden mallet or "beetle" of unknown date came to light during gravel digging. The circumstances of the discovery are not clear but the wood appears to have been waterlogged. The mallet is formed by 2 branches of a tree, the main one cut short either side of a subsidiary branch which forms the handle, the other the head. (1)
