Full Description
During 1966 gravel extraction took place right up to and around the Civil War earthwork (02980). On a mound of stripped overburden and in blue clay was found the complete base, much of the body, and a third of the rim and shoulders of a coarse grey ware vessel. Decoration consists of incised parallel lines. The inside of the vessel is coated with the black carbonised remains of the contents. Associated finds included ... a single fragment of decorated samian. (1)
Mr Radcliffe (NWM) believes that all the above finds were left at the site - now reclaimed gravel workings. (2)
See L8799 for U finds, L2980 for Civil War site.
