Full Description
Various Ro finds were discovered when digging drains by the S footings of 26 Farthingate, Southwell in 1988. There were c 50 sherds of pottery of various ware types, mostly grey wares and coarse gritted wares, with one abraded samian sherd; 12 tegulae fragments, including a possible imbrex fragment and a small amount of animal bone and oyster shell. The finds were apparently from a pit. It was reported that tile and brick had come from an earlier trench running from the house, E to a stream (these finds were not seen). NB this site is some way ESE of the villa site (M3069) across a low, wet area. (1) (2)
