Full Description

During exceptionally low tides, flint nodules weighing up to 10-12lbs were found on bed of River Trent. Some of these showed clear evidence of having been worked, and were obviously not natural to the area. Some years ago in a gravel layer at Rampton Wharf, 3-400yds further downstream, some very fine flint scrapers were found made from a similar "blade" flint. It is possible that nodules were raw material for flint knappers who produced the scrapers. (1)
See M4736 for site of wharf.
