Full Description

Heatons Yard, on the N side of Parliament St, between Nos 37 and 39. Many clay tobacco pipe bowls and stems by 3 early C19 Newark makers - SIMNITT EDMUNDS and TURPIN. Small pieces of unused pipeclay and strips with depressions, probably made by pipe stems resting on them seem to indicate the remains of a kiln. This is further indicated by large pieces of plaster with many pieces of broken pipe embedded in it; some faces of the plaster are glazed - presumably because it has been subjected to intense heat. (1)
This appears to be a waste dump - the kilns were probably nearby.
