Full Description
2 gold staters of the Coritani tribe. Found on farmland 60m apart, near to Owls Nest house, whilst out "treasure hunting". Other artefacts found within 160m radius. (1)
The coins weigh about 5g and measure 17mm across x 3mm thick. One has part of an inscription which reads 'AVN COST'. Their fronts have an olive reef (leaf ?) design and their reverse is the figure of what is thought to be a horse. The coins were found 80m apart. Other finds which have been uncovered on the site span a 400 year history during the late BA and IA - including pottery, bricks and tiles, brooches and fittings. (2)
