Excavation (of tumulus, 1947-8) turned up ... various pottery sherds (one or two samian), 2 Constantinian coins and one of Constans. There was also some reconnaisance and trial digging in the adjacent fields. One feature, the "Western Ditch", from which the 2 Constantine coins and some samian fragments came, does seem to have been Ro. (1)
To the west lay a ditch aligned north/south which contain pottery ranging in date from the first to fourth centuries AD…….Given the flimsy evidence implied it is difficult to place much credence in the account given in the summary report (1) of the other features below the mound. (5)
