Full Description

A 12 spoked wheel ... was found 15ft below the surface, during gravel quarrying in an old meander of the River Trent, --/12/1967. The wheel was found on Keuper marl bedrock immediately below and touching boat 1. The 6 felloed wheel was 33in in diameter with square section spokes, and traces of an iron rim. There was no trace of a bearing in the hub. A C2 date is suggested for the wheel, by analogy with an example from the fort at Newstead, Roxburghshire. (1)
