Full Description

Fragments of BA pottery were found by Mr Turton in the soil overlying the gravel (with pits etc). (1) Celtic and BA "B" pottery found in ballast hole. Late Neo pottery found 1950/1. All now at NUM. (2)
The pottery typings are suspect ... in NUM are a number of potsherds and other objects from Bassingfield. The material was presented by Mr GF Turton. The sherds include many Ro coarse ware sherds and 4 fragments of plain samian. 4 small sherds previously called Neo, now re-classified as IA, but are as likely to be coarse Ro. (3)
See L1120 for pits and stone, L944 for flints.
