Full Description
2 adjoining enclosures (building ?) with ring ditch (not visible 1970 AP) and other linear features. Another rectangular enclosure (1972). (1) (2) (3) (4)
These marks are located in a level arable field at present under sugar beet. No surface irregularities could be seen from the nearest hedgerow. (5)
A generally strong level of readings were recorded in field 3. The computer plot shows a pattern which seems to conform closely with the surface appearance of the gravel ridge as recorded from air photographs. (6)
A series of linear features was located apparently forming part of an enclosure. The pattern conforms closely to that plotted from air photographs. Several other magnetic anomalies were detected including a rectilinear feature covering some 8 metres square in the extreme northwest corner of the survey area. (7)
Trench 3a was a machine-excavated trench dug to examine a north-west, south-east linear cropmark feature. Excavation revealed a 3m wide ditch approximately 1.2m deep. 3 sherds of Ro pottery found. A second machine-excavated trench (3b) examined the north-east to south-west arm of the cropmark enclosure. Excavation here showed a series of three parallel ditches forming a feature 3.5m wide and 0.6m deep. (8)
See L2963 for cross refs to rest of complex, nearby cropmarks.
