Full Description

Uneven linear features, possibly geological. No ref.
Morph: 188.45.1 enclosure (1)
Field 8 yielded a wide range of magnetic susceptibility readings. The circular cropmark produced no clear magnetic response, although a group of slightly lower readings may be associated with a feature in this general area. Groupings of higher readings around a farm cottage may be modern in origin. However, the discovery of 3 sherds of Roman pottery (L10807) suggests a possible archaeological horizon in the vicinity. There has been a modern bonfire site nearby. There is also a distinct possibilty that occupation spreads from the W side of the Med village of Little Carlton. (2)
No underlying cut features were detected. (3)
A single machine-excavated trench was positioned to examine a cropmark ring-ditch seen in air photographs. The ring-ditch was identified towards the eastern end of the trench. It proved to be 1.4m wide and at least 0.70m deep. (4)
See L2963 for cross refs to further cropmarks, L10807 for Ro pottery.
