Full Description

In area 1 towards its W end were long stretches of fencing set within both the N & S banks, consisting of thin slats of wood held together and encased by thin metal uprights. Much of it was destroyed during dredging, but a 3m stretch was left undamaged at 680m from the water works bridge along the S bank. Post Medieval in date, and could be either estate fencing or some sort of revetment. Evidence of this fencing was seen in areas 2 and 3, where only small sections of it survived. (1)
