Abstract/Summary

Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Mace Limited to undertake an archaeological desk based assessment of the proposed re-development of Retford Market Square. This assessment has identified a high potential for Medieval and Post-Medieval remains and activity associated with the historic settlement and market of Retford. A low potential for all other periods has been identified. Documentary sources such as HER and local archives were consulted and inform the outcome of this study. The report contains a map regression exercise, modern photos taken as part of a site visit, and descriptions of historic buildings on the Market Square.
