Abstract/Summary
A watching brief was carried out by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) during groundworks for a proposed residential development on the site of the Old Dairy, Lovers Lane, Newark. Stripping of excessive overburden both at the front and rear of the current building revealed the footprint of a previous possibly early 20th century industrial building. The foundations of this were substantial and mirrored almost exactly the line of the proposed foundations. As base pads and a concrete floor slab were to be placed in to this disturbed ground, no archaeological deposits were to be impacted by the development.
The report contains photographs of the earlier feature and from the watching brief and a geological map of the area.
