Abstract/Summary

The desk – based archaeological assessment for land at Oaklands, Collingham, Nottinghamshire demonstrates that the proposed development area lies within the medieval village core of Collingham. A previous rescue excavation revealed evidence of a medieval occupation near to the development area – prehistoric, Roman and Anglo Saxon finds have also been found close to the site. The site has been built on during the 19th and 20th centuries, the report suggests that archaeological remains may be relatively well preserved beneath the present ground surface. The report states that the proposed development area has good potential to contain medieval archaeological remains, a moderate to medium potential for containing remains of a prehistoric date and lower potential for remains from the intervening periods. Historic documentary sources including the HER (SMR) OS and Geological maps were consulted as part of this report. A site visit took place as part of this report and map regression exercise took place as part of this desk based study
