Abstract/Summary
The watching brief took place prior to the construction of a new housing development. Prior to the watching brief a geophysical survey had taken place the results of which suggested the possibility of modern disturbance. Upon excavation this was confirmed, features such as possible tyre marks, toothed bucket marks, a water monitoring post and fabric membranes, clean builders sand and modern bricks were encountered throughout the site. Top soil 0.02m and 0.35m of sandy mid brown top soil lay above a mid-orange sandy deposit. Due to the level of modern disturbance the report concludes that the archaeological potential of the site is negligible.
No finds were encountered during the excavations, and no environmental samples were taken during the project.
The watching brief comprised the monitoring of all topsoil stripping occurring as part of the initial preparatory ground works for phase 1 of the development.
