Title Watching Brief at Castle Gate, Newark
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2013

Abstract/Summary

A watching brief outlining work carried out on Castle Gate outside Gilstrap Centre. A bus shelter was moved to a new location on a street directly adjacent to Newark Castle. Due to the proximity to the medieval castle grounds, there was a possibility of encountering archaeological remains. A bus stop was moved, and a new foundation was dug for a temporary bus stop flag. The ground had already been disturbed for the construction of the pavement and the insertion of the bus top and no archaeological layers were discovered.
