Author/Originator | Robert Evershed |
Date/Year | 2016 |
Abstract/Summary
The survey revealed a small number of linear and amorphous positive anomalies that could represent ditches, pits, paths, tracks, soil-filled hollows or former ponds. It is possible that some of the linear features relate to the dualling of the A46, the easement for the construction of which ran through the northwest part of the site. There was a large amount of magnetic noise across the site. This could relate to waste material from the construction of either the recent A46 works or the garden centre. Some of the areas of magnetic noise may represent former field boundaries, as seen on historic Ordnance Survey maps. The geophysical survey revealed little of archaeological interest, however the presence of large amounts of magnetic noise may be masking the site’s archaeological potential.
