Abstract/Summary
A geophysical survey using magnetometry was undertaken on land at the Park, Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire, prior to the submission of a planning application for construction of a flood retention embankment.
The site lies within an area of archaeological interest close to the dissolved Augustinian Priory of St Peter and the shrunken medieval village of Thurgarton, and within a post-medieval to modern landscaped park.
The survey has revealed a few features of archaeological interest, including a long linear feature which may represent a former boundary or enclosure feature or headland associated with the ridge and furrow immediately to the south of the feature, and some short curvilinear features which are of uncertain origin.
The survey has also revealed buried modern services within both areas surveyed.
