Abstract/Summary
A detailed magnetic gradiometer survey was undertaken in connection with a proposed development on land off Elston Lane, Elston, Nottinghamshire. The survey totalled c. 0.41ha.
Two northwest to southeast parallel positive linear anomalies were recorded in the southern half of the site. These were c. 5.1m apart and possibly represent parts of a trackway crossing the site. The survey also recorded evidence of ridge and furrow agriculture across the majority of the site. The furrows were c. 6m apart probably dating to the medieval/post-medieval period.
One possible curvilinear feature was also recorded, and could be related to the two linear anomalies. However, due to the alignment of the furrows, possibly masking some of it, it is difficult to interpret from the geophysics alone.
