Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on land off Main Street, Thoroton, Nottinghamshire as a condition of planning consent for the construction of three new dwellings.
Evidence for prehistoric activity has been identified in the vicinity of the site, and there is potential for the presence of medieval, or earlier occupation particularly along the Main Street frontage.
This watching brief exposed a linear feature running along the eastern side of the site, parallel to Main Street, and containing an early modern brick culvert. A tree bole was also exposed, likely to represent the former use of the site as an orchard.
