Abstract/Summary
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during groundworks for five new dwellings on land adjacent to Brookfield, Epperstone Road, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire.
The site was archaeologically sensitive, lying close to the course of a Roman thoroughfare that connected the small town of Margidunum with a camp at Fox Wood. The medieval core of the village lies to the southwest of the site and is best represented by the 13th century church of St Mary and the earthwork remains of a motte and bailey castle.
The monitoring and recording revealed a sequence of natural, subsoil and topsoil deposits with no archaeological features being encountered.
No finds were retrieved.
