Abstract/Summary
An archaeological strip, map and record was undertaken on land off the A638 at Lodge Farm. The work was required to fulfil a condition of planning consent for the development and use of the Site for two angling lakes, with access and landscaping with associated excavation and exportation of mineral and surplus soils. The Site covers approximately 4.9 hectares.
The Site was excavated in linear strips with baulks left initially between each strip, which were then subsequently removed. Five ditched linear features, three orientated north-south and two east-west, were revealed across the Site. The ditches appear to form part of a wider Romano-British field system with the two east-west ditches matching cropmarks visible on aerial photographs. Dating evidence comprised two sherds of ceramic, Romano-British Grey Ware, recovered from two of the ditches in the northeast section of the Site.
