Abstract/Summary
Conclusion: The Tuxford signpost was erected 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The initial colour scheme reflected this in red, white and blue. Although there is no (surviving) evidence for a white at scheme 1, doubtless the directional arms would have been painted white and possibly the collars surrounding the column shaft. The second and third scheme follow the same triage of colour, probably up to the Coronation of George V in 1911.
