Source/Archive record (Unpublished document) SNT5912 - Tree-Ring Analysis of Timber from 1 Greasleys Cottages and Pitchforks, Main Street Norwell.

Title Tree-Ring Analysis of Timber from 1 Greasleys Cottages and Pitchforks, Main Street Norwell.
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2010

Abstract/Summary

Analysis by dendrochronology of 15 out of 16 samples indicated that the majority of the timbers used as common rafters are likely to have been felled during the E/M C18. The ground floor ceiling in 1 Greasleys Cottages contains timbers of which at least one was felled in AD 1747. All the dated timbers may therefore be associated with work in the first half of the C18. However, Evidence suggested that these common rafters were reset at a later date, potentially associated with a partial raising of the roof.
