Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was carried out land north of Ashland Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. The work was undertaken in advance of a housing development.
Fifty six evaluation trenches were excavated across the site. The majority targeted the results of a previous geophysical survey. Possible archaeological features included traces of north to south medieval ridge and furrow and other unknown linear and semi-circular anomalies. However all of the trenches proved negative with only various types of field drain present with variations in geology.Modern brick and slate/ cbm roof tiles were observed within the top-soil, together with post-medieval pottery.
