Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching was carried out on Phase 2 of land off Tickhill Road, Harworth, Nottinghamshire, in July and August 2022. This work follows a desk based assessment and a previous phase of evaluation by trial trenching consisting of nine trenches.
In total forty trenches were excavated out of a specified forty-one. One trench was moved due to the presence of a spoil heap and one trench was not undertaken due to overhead power lines. Twenty-six trenches were confirmed to be negative for archaeological features, with fourteen revealing ditches aligned to known cropmarks. These features appear to be part of the ‘brickwork pattern’ field systems common in North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, possibly dating to Iron Age or Roman periods.
The archaeological features produced no artefacts or dating evidence.
