The proposals involve the extension of the existing fishing club house and the erection of a portal frame unit adjacent to an existing industrial building. The area around Portland Grange Farm has archaeological remains dating from the prehistoric and roman periods to the medieval period. The farm itself has previous evidence for ditches dated as Roman, and scattered medieval pottery. Landscaping works to create the complex of fishing lakes currently present on the site is considered likely to have disturbed any archaeological deposits that were present in the locations of the lakes and buildings. Evidence from historic mapping and modern LIDAR survey suggests land around the club house has been built up by 1.49m, and the land in the location of the proposed portal frame structure has been reduced by at least 3m. The ground disturbance is such that there is no realistic chance of archaeological remains being encountered as any which were present were destroyed in circa 1995.
